Accomplishments
From championing sustainable development initiatives like the "Trees for Tempe" program to making our parks safer via the Tempe Park Ranger program, Jennifer is working tirelessly to enhance the quality of life for residents, support public safety, and ensure Tempe is doing its part to fight climate change.
Public Safety:
Cracking Down on Drag Racing: Councilmember Jennifer Adams, with her Council colleagues, led efforts to reduce the dangerous nuisance of drag racing in Tempe, leading to a decrease in noise pollution and increased public safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers.
Launch of Tempe Park Rangers Program: One of her proudest achievements, Jennifer Adams helped re-establish the Tempe Park Rangers program after the Great Recession. The program, launched in November 2023, patrols over 50 parks and helps maintain safety, provides resources, and offers public programming.
Quality Of Life
Reopening of the Clark Park Community Center and Pool: After 15 years of being closed, Councilmember Jennifer Adams and the Tempe City Council ensured it was reinvigorated so it once again could provide valuable community space.
Supporting Animal Welfare
Kiwanis Dog Park Opening: along with her colleagues, worked hard to bring the Kiwanis Dog Park online
Festival of the Arts: is an ongoing supporter of the now famous Tempe Festival of the Arts, a free and dog-friendly event in historic Mill Avenue, which celebrates Tempe’s culture and offers fun and access for residents and visitors alike.
Environmental:
Launched "Trees for Tempe": Councilmember Jennifer Adams led the effort to increase Tempe's tree and shade canopy to 25% by 2040. This includes the Cost Match Tree Program that helps residents plant trees at half the cost and the Treebate program, which offers financial incentives to install desert-adapted plants.
Infrastructure & Development:
Annexation of County Island for Development: Councilmember Jennifer Adams led the push for the annexation of a 17-acre portion of a county island north of the Loop 202 and east of Scottsdale Road which was developed into new housing - helping ease Tempe’s housing crisis.
Implementation of PQI (Pavement Quality Index): Jennifer worked on and supported the three general obligation bonds that were overwhelmingly approved by Tempe voters last year. Prior to the bonds Councilmember Adams championed the implementation of the PQI, which assesses the quality of local roads which identified areas most needing repair and is now the basis for the bond’s comprehensive plan of improving Tempe’s roads, bike lanes, and walking paths.
